A vote has been launched on the withdrawal of four older documents for the wireless networking technology HIPERLAN Type 1.
The documents covered by the vote are:
ETSI ETS 300 652 ed.1 (1996‑10)– the original base standard (Edition 1)
ETSI ETS 300 652/A1 ed.1 (1997‑05) & A2 (1998‑06) – amendments to the first edition
ETSI EN 300 652 V1.2.1 (1998‑07) – the consolidated European Standard
These specifications for early wireless local area networks (WLAN) have in practice been superseded by modern Wi‑Fi standards. The purpose of the vote is to formally remove them from the active standardisation catalogue.
We at ITS would like to know whether these standards are still in use and whether there is a continued need to keep them. All feedback and voting positions are welcome by 23 July 2026.
