New UWB standard adopted for indoor positioning

A new version of the Ultra-Wideband (UWB) standard has now been adopted: ETSI EN 302 065-2-5 V1.1.0. The document is part of the Short Range Devices (SRD) series and now also includes requirements for so-called enhanced indoor devices, i.e., UWB-based solutions for indoor positioning and tracking, operating in the frequency range 6.0–8.5 GHz.

The harmonised standard is central to ensuring that new UWB products comply with EU requirements for radio interference protection and efficient spectrum usage. At the same time, it enables the high level of precision required for indoor positioning, which is essential for applications in areas such as logistics, industry, and smart buildings.

With the adoption of this standard, a more level playing field is created for manufacturers and suppliers across Europe, strengthening conditions for innovation as well as the broader market deployment of UWB technology.

You can find the standard here: ETSI EN 302 065-2-5 V1.1.0.
