The updated ETSI EN 301 443 V2.2.0 standard covers technical characteristics and measurement methods for Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSATs) – small satellite earth stations used for satellite communications. The standard applies to equipment that is transmit-only, transmit-and-receive, or receive-only, operating in frequency bands around 4 GHz and 6 GHz.

VSAT equipment is used as part of satellite networks for the distribution and exchange of information, including star, mesh and point-to-point networks. The standard covers areas such as radio transmission and reception, frequency use, and the control and monitoring of transmitting functions. The new version revises the previous standard and addresses comments from the European Commission.

As a harmonised standard, ETSI EN 301 443 V2.2.0 provides a framework for demonstrating compliance with requirements for access to radio spectrum under the EU Radio Equipment Directive (RED).
