The new standard ETSI EN 303 940-1 V1.1.0 covers indoor security scanners using Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology in the millimetre-wave band 69.8–80.5 GHz. The standard is part of the Short Range Devices (SRD) series and is harmonised for access to the radio spectrum within the EU.

It defines technical requirements to ensure that the systems can operate without causing harmful interference to other radio communications. At the same time, it enables advanced capabilities for applications such as security screening in public and commercial environments.

This is an important step towards improved regulatory clarity and the market introduction of innovative millimetre-wave-based security solutions in Europe.
